Going for a Song

When your school is a tech wreck, you need to get G.O.I.N.G. That is to say, you need a Gigawatt Optimum Interface New Generation server.

But they’re not exactly going for a song.

Or are they?

The students of [Insert parody of the name of your school here] School have a problem: Their ancient computer server keeps breaking down, the school can’t afford an upgrade, and the teachers don’t seem to have a clue about troubleshooting. When a solution comes along in the form of a National Song Competition with a huge cash prize, the kids set their sights on making the ultimate song to represent their school and win the money to pay for a new computer system for their school.

But musical tastes and monster egos begin to clash. They soon discover it’ll take more than funky beats to bring home the prize … and that sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn.

A fun story that can be customised to be set in your school, GOING for a Song is a Musical Comedy for, and about, 21st Century kids. It has catchy-but-easy original songs that stay in your ears. The themes of friendship, team work and the definition of success resonate with young and old.

There are 19 non-gender-prescriptive roles, and lots of fun parts for a medium to large ensemble cast.

VaudeVillains

VaudeVillains is a BRAND NEW musical comedy with a twist of tragedy and a hint of history, about family ties, long-forgotten lies, and how there’s really a villain in all of us.

It’s 1946, fourteen years after the after the last gasp of Vaudeville, and a missing will has turned up. To their astonishment, three siblings stand to inherit their grandparents old Vaudeville theatre, but there’s a catch. Of course there’s a catch! They only have one year to bring it back to its former glory.

For starry-eyed dancer Adie, this is a dream come true. For her sensible sister Lina, it’s surely an impossible mountain to climb. And for their brother –  the gloriously neurotic Will – the very idea of it is a terror sandwich. With a pickle on the side.

To add insult to indigestion, long-lost Uncle Joe – who knows more than he’s letting on – has his own ideas about the famous Hobson Theatre, as do the ham-handed members of the New York Theatre Guild.

Flashing back to the 1920s, this twisting tale shines a spotlight into the eyeballs of what was once America’s most popular form of entertainment, and asks the question: What would any of us do to survive?

Written with schools and community theatre in mind,

VaudeVillains is an homage – and affectionate spoof of – a traditional golden age musical.

With 4 main leads, 5 minor leads and various other featured performers – plus a large or small ensemble – it is the perfect vehicle for a fun and fabulous (but not too difficult) musical experience.

Our story is true to the historical events and times that inspire it, with beautiful music echoing the eras we visit. From the clarinets and close harmonies of the 1940s, back to honky-tonk melodies of the 1920s, and in the end to a flash-forward epilogue set in the 1950s, because the show must go on … and on … and on.
